BOROUGH WORKS.

ROADMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman reported as follows as Monday night’s Council meeting: During the mouth of December the -road stall has been engaged as follows: —Completing the top-dressing of Main Street with tar and sand down to the Family Hotel; mowing grass at the cemetery ; weeding footpaths'Maui and Clyde Streets; mixing asphalt for repairing footpaths in Main Street, and screening coke ash anil sand for same. We are still without metal for patching holes, having only a small quantity of Belmont in the yard, and this is not suitable except where a great quantity is needed. We are now engaged in repairing footpaths in Main Street. Thi? work would he more satisfactory, and would be less inconvenient, if we could boil the tar before putting it on. - The cold tar naturally takes a long lime to properly set, and I would suggest to 1 the Council the advisability of again trying to procure a Lir boiler, for footpath work at any rate. Union Street footpath has been badly scoured by the high winds prevailing at the beginning of December, and needs attention. JThe bank of the drain, too, has been broken down for about the length of a chain, in some places nearly filling the drain.'This Las evidently been done by children. We repaired places in this hank some time ago, which had been damaged in the same way. Cr. Band said it was time something definite was done with footpath in Union Street. II wa r f u disgraceful slate. I Cr. Hunt said a tar. boiler was ve- [ ally required for the footpath won:. L It was i.ot fair to expect the men to W make a decent job under existing circumstances. , - ’ The Mayor .-aid that every effort should be made'to get a tar boiler .without delay. He suggested referring the report to the Public W orks Conun’Uee to deal with, and this was agreed to..
