WEDNESDAY M\MK FIXED. Tlie statutory special meeting ol: the Borough Council to fix the haltholiday for the current year waj; held last night. Cr. Bryant moved that Saturday be the day fixed for the weekly halfholiday. He said that he believed most people were in favour of Saturday. A great number of towns bad tried Saturday, and none had reverted to Wednesday, the business people locally had not made any suggestions as to which day they preferred, and apparently were not partieiilar. He was a business man, and was prepared lo give Saturday 'a trial. Cr. Parkin seconded (he motion. • Cr. Walker mdved as an amendment that Wednesday be decided upon. ■ He believed the business people generally were strongly in favour of Wednesday being continued. Cr. Thompson, in seconding the amendment, said the business people had not intimated that they desired a change, and be didn't think a surprise should be sprang upon lliem. The Mayor considered that whilst Saturday no doubt suited the cities it was not a good day for the small towns. On a vole being taken Wednesday was decided upon, the voting being - .' • —-Wednesday: -Tin; Mayor and Crs. ,Thompson, Walker, Hunt and Bearson; Saturday: Crs. Bryant, Parkin and Band.
