PROPOSED FIRE BRIGADE.
At'last-night’s Council meeting the question of the installation of Mime fire-fighting appliances for the borough, and (he formation of a fire brigade, was further considered. The Mayor said this matter required verv serious consideration, and he thought- it was time that something was done. He proposed calling a •public meeting lor r l bursday night, (o form a brigade, and bad no doubt that the proposal would receive the hearty support of residents generally. He moved that a volunteer fire brigade be formed, and as a first-aid lire fighting appliance the Council agrees to purchase a, ‘‘Nott” chemical engine, with equipment, as per catalogue submitted' and subject to same being in thoroughly god working order, for the sum of £59, and furl her, invites public*-subscrip-tions for funds to erect shed and provide ihe necessary material. The motion was carried. A public meeting will be held in (the Council Chamber on Thursday evening, at / .39 o’clock, to form a brigade.
