COUNCILLOR’S LOST SEAT.
RE-ELECTED TO POSITION'. The hy-eleetion to till the vacancy on the Waihi borough council (mused by the unseating of Mr W. J. Brown, Deputy-Mayor, owing to his having received a sum in excess of that, permitted hy the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, for services rendered to the council, was held recently. Considerable interest was taken in the contest, in which Mr Browif sought re-election, and was opposed by Mr Claude Hands, ail ex-member of ille council. The hitter’s nominators included representatives of the ' Ratepayers’ and Householders’ Association, which body, it is understood, was responsible for the steps taken to unseat Mr Brown. The election res tilled in the return of Mr Brown by (i-17 vole- against 325. The informal vote- numbered eight.
