STANDARD BOOTS.
During the election campaign, Mr Newman, M.P., was asked where standardised boots-could be procured, and promised to write .to the Government and get the information desired, and publish the same. The following letter contains the Premier’s reply on 'the subject “Dear Sir.—ln reply to your letter of the 13th instant regarding the Government standardised boots, I have to state that most of the large manufacturers in New Zealand are now applying for licenses to manufacture these boots. If you will be good enough to communicate with Messrs C. J. Ward and Co., and the Equity Boot Coy.,- Wellington, you would bp able to find out how soon these boots will be available to retailers. The Board of Trade expects the footwear to be available for sale to the public about the end of January, but more definite information on this point could be obtained from the manufacturers indicated. I regret that your letter did not reach me in lime to remit of an earlier reply.”
