CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor.) Sir. —Judging hy Mr Martin’s lelt ex s 'in your Tuesday’s issue, he evidently does not know what look place at the ■■■Returned Soldiers’ meeting. In the first place, the meeting was called for returned soldiers, nnd_ not for local returned soldiers only. The chairman was unanimously elected before the business of the meeting was known, and I think the majority of those who were present will agree with me when I say that the chairman was (he right man in the right place. The chairman, when moving ids amendment, made it clear that he personally, and men of other districts who are now residing in this district, would not benefit; that the amendment, if (tarried be banded to the Patriotic Society as a suggestion from the returned soldiers, and if the Society thought fit, to pub the suggestion before a public meeting. There were several men of other districts present, and if they had voted . against tlvc amendment they would not have prevented it from being carried. I also take the liberty of correcting Mr Martin in two statements made hy him. The chairman of the meeting is a returned soldier, and not a member of (lie Patriotic Society, nor was he acting on their behalf in proposing the amendment. Trusting this will clear up all misunderstanding.—l am, etc., D. E. MACK-lE, See. Returned Soldiers’ Com.
