Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, NOVEMB. 20, 1919. THE BY-ELECTION.
VERY little interest was evinced iil s yesterday’s municipal by-election by the burgesses, barely 200 out of practically 1,000 electors on the roll recorded their votes. The Aveather conditions Averc anything but favourable, and neither of the candidates took the trouble to bring their supporters to the polling booth. Mr Hunt, the successful candidate, although a comparative stranger, is a man avlio has been connected with '.severallarge building schemes in the borough, and his practical knoAvledge should be of value in the Council’s deliberations! We congratulate him on his success. The thanks of the community are due to the unsuccessful candidate, ex-Councillor Henderson, for his Avillingncss to place his time at the public disposal, and for the valuable sendees previously given. His enthusiasm should be an inspiration to younger men, for Mr Henderson has arrived at that period of life when he Avould be justified in taking things easy.
