PATRIOTIC FUNDS.
SUGGESTED DISPOSAL,
Al the meeting of the Manawatu Patriotic Society on Saturday afternoon (lie matter of disposing of (ho balance of the patriotic funds came up for discussion. A Idler was read from the Minis lor of Internal Affairs inviting suggestions from the Society as to the disposal of its funds.
The chairman (Mr J. A. Nash, ALP.) said there was only one answer tu the letter, and he thought the Society should send a resolution to the Minister slating that the Society had been of the opinion that the curved thing to do was to nationalise the funds in terms of (he proposals brought down by Mr Skevrdt, in which the nationalisation would he controlled by the patriotic muddies. Mr Nash moved that (be funds be nationalised subject to representative control of ihe patriotic societies.
Air Stevens asked whether the suggestion would inter lore with the proposal for distribution which bad been before the Society.
Air Nash replied (hat the matter had been referred to Sir James Allen. but nothing further had been done. Continuing. Air Nash staled lie bad been trying to get a conference of (lie patriotic societies held in Wellington. He thought the only fair way of distribution was by nationalisation, because some societies had large sums of money and others had very tittle.
In seconding the motion, Mr M. Cohen said (hat if limy could not get nationalisation the host that could he done was to administer the funds themselves. The motion was carried.
