As requested, Cr. Barber and my- • self met the Councillors and Engineer of the llorowhenua County at the Shannon bridge for (he purpose of inspecting the erosion that has recently occurred, and is threatening the Shannon bridge. The bank has scoured away about the centre Of the land span, and it is necessary that some protection work should be done immediately to prevent further erosion, I would suggest that the bank under the land span, and for a distance of two chains up the river, be fascined with willow and anchored down with crete blocks, and Die balance of Dm bank right up to the old ferry (rack should be planted with willows. Accretion is now taking place a few chains above Hie bridge,* and in a very short lime the bridge would be protected with a Jive protection of willows.
