Wellington, Nov. 3.

The Minister Cor Finance states that some Victory loan subscriptions are still being received by the Treasury, but not enough to wipe out the shortage of £1,000,000 in the amount subscribed up to October 9th last. The machinery for enforcing the compulsory clauses is in motion, but some time must elapse before it becomes effective. The lists of subscribers and income-tax payers have to be prepared and checked. Sir James Allen added tbatNie was still of opinion the position gave, no ground for anxiety. “The loan is all right,” he said.
