Picture lovers should not miss the particularly 1 fine programme that, is 1 to be.screened at the Royal to-night. : The star'film is “Milestones,” a play by Arnold Bennett, which is tin education to the young and a, delightful reminiscence for the old. It deals with the progress of civilisation between the years 1800 and 1914. A firm of shipbuilders is .divided against itself, one partner favouring the building of iron ships , while the other prefers the old methods. This creates a -split between the two, and they dissolve 'partnership. Then the progress of the two men is followed up along the different routes they travel. This is interleaved with the love stories nf three successive generations, and the effect upon the lives of men and women of iron family pride. Successively two of the women give up their lovers and make the ■ dictated by the autocratic master of the house. When it comes to the third generation, however, the girl refuses. Her altitude is hacked up by the two old ladies who had made the mistake she was trying to avoid, and in the. end all ancient, differences are levelled and the view of the third generation that love is the only thing that counts, is accepted as the right one.
