Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18, 1919. THE GENERAL ELECTION.
SO far the political atmosphere of this (Manawatu) electorate remains calm. 'While there are quite a plethora of candidates in the. adjoining electorates anxious to woo and confuse the electors, only one candidate, Air Hiilier, the representative of the Labour Party, lias officially notified Ids intention of contesting this seal. He has already addressed meetings in various pa rls of the electorate. It is understood that Mr Edward Newman, Reform M.P. for Rangitikei, will be a candidate for Manawiltn, as the southern portion of his old electorate is now included iu Hie Manawatu. The Liberal Parly will not allow its claim to representation go by default, and no doubt a candidate will be selected at an early date. The Manawaiu electorate extends from Shannon and Tokonmru in the south to Turakiue, in the north, taking in Rougotea, Sanson, Bulls and portions of Bunny thorpe and Feildiug.
