BOROUGH WORKS.
ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT
The road foreman (Air G, Hunt-, lev) reported’as follows at Monday night’s Council meeting: — During the past month the road staff has been engaged in putting in concrete culvert in Clyde Street, covering sand drift in Johnston Street, topdressing footpath in Avenue Road, clearing round ornamental trees Park, Liddell and Clyde Streets, and filling in ruts in Lady’s Mile and Johnston'S!reel. The metal is coming to hand, and we arc filling in the ruts made in the road at the southern end of Main Street, a fid have also made a start on the Saudon road with the Belmont metal. 3he County steam roller is at present working-on the Beach Road, aiuLii. possible we should procure it for a day or two for working on the lower end of Alain Street and Sandou Road, and also to roll the loose metal in Robinson Street and Norbiton Road. We can trim up the metal on the two last named streets previous to the roller going on them. As we are likely’soon to be using a good bit of tar, we shall be wanting more river sand, and I would suggest getting half a dozen trucks from Ashhurst, as it is better quality,'*being free from silt. 1 would like to know if the Council intend to top-dress Main Street with tar and sand during tbis : season. It was not done last year, with the exception „of the lower part and strips on each side. It is beginning to show signs of wear, and would not take a great quantity of material to make it as good as ever. If left for another year it is likely to be badly broken up. —The report was adopted, with the exception of that portion referring to rolling Robinson Street and Norbiluu Road.
