MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
EXGTXEER’S REPORT. The County Engineer reported at Tuesday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council as follows ; Awahou Riding: The flood in the Manawatu river about the 12th of last month broke through the stop hank near Shannon bridge, and washed lawny about four chains of the stop bank, causing considerable damage to private-properly and the road lending to the Shannon bridge. Since the Hood has subsided I. have arranged with Mr J. Burr to reconstruct the bank for the sum of £75; the work is well in hand, and prevented the Hood from spreading over private property last week. When the stop hank is completed we intend to protect the hank of the river with large macrocavpa trees and anchor them down'with blocks of concrete attached to wire ropes. Should the river continue to encroach towards the Shannon road it will he necessary in the near future id take an easement for a new road to the bridge. Metal has been delivered at the Lady’s Mile for repairing the Foxton Beach road. I have also made arrangements with Mr Nve to cart the metal, and when the work is well advanced I intend -to roll the metal with the steam roller, which is now working in that district.
