FOXTON STOCK SALE.

The lirsl refillin' stock sole lie hi et Foxton for many years took place in Messrs Abraham ami Williams’, Ltd., new sale yards yesterday. Many years ago ' stock sales were held in Foxton regularly, the sale yards then being located .in Thynne Street, on the'section on which Air John Loss’ residence now stands. Owing, however, to the small amount'’of support accorded the sales were discontinued. Recently Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., recognising that the district was -progressing, and there, were good prospects for the future, and that in every progressive district side yards were' a necessity, purchased an area of hind in Russell Street, and erected commodious and up-to-date yards, and will in future hold regular sides. We feel sure the enterprise of this live firm will meet with the support they deserve. For the first side yesterday excellent entries were received, including over 800 sheep'and 350 cattle. The wet weather in the morning prevented some of the entries being yarded, and also no doubt interfered somewhat with the attendance, which under the circumstances was particularly good. All* R. Abraham wielded the hammer, and prior to the sale commencing a call by Mr P. 13/ Baldwin for three cheers for Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd./ and their new yards was heartily responded to. Mr Abraham said it was the intention of the linn to .hold fortnightly sales at Fox ton, and he felt sure that with the support of the settlers of the district the sales would be most successful. There was some excellent hind around Ihe district, and (here was no reason why the Foxlon market should not he equal to any. The lirsl line submitted'yesterday was a pen of 38 fat ewes, belonging to Mr J. Purcell, of Foxton. Bidding opened at 32s (id, and the line was knocked down to Air Rics at 35s 7d. All the sheep offered were sold, but the demand for cattle was not so good, several lines being passed in. Taken all through, the sale was very satisfactory, a'nd the indications are that Messrs Abraham and Williams’ "enterprise will be a boon to the whole district. The next sale will be held on Monday. October 13(h. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report: —AVe held our first fortnightly Foxton sale in our new yards on Monday, and a large entry of sheep and cattle came forward. Owing to .the wet weather several good lines of cattle did not arrive. There was a large attendance of (he public, and bidding for sheep was spirited, whilst, owing to the bad winter being evidenced in the cattle, they did not sell too well.
