THE MANAWATU GORGE.
The Maiiawalu Gorge Road and Bridge Bill, introduced hy Die Minister of i’lli)lit* Works (Sir William Fraser) in the House of Representatives last week, was prepared by ’Mr G. H. Smith (Pahiatua), in conjunction with the Mayor of Palmerston North and the chairmen of the Pahiatua, Kairanga, and Oroua County Councils. It has been taken up as a Government measure. The Bill provides for Die constitution of a hoard of control, consisting of six members, to lie appointed in terms of Die Act by the Palmerston North Borough Council, the Kairanga Conn I y Council, the Pahiatua County Council and Borough Council, the Woodvillo Borough Council and County Council, the Dannevirke County Council and Borough Council, and Die Waipawa County Council, the Rangilikei County Council, the Oroua County Council, and the Feilding Borough Council. This hoard will have Die powers of n county council in dealing with the Mauawatu Gorge road and bridge, and its expenses will he provided hy Die contributing local authorities in the following proportions, as recommended by the commission : Per cent.
