Dominion, show tlnit during the yenr ended .31 si Deeeml.ier, there was an aggregate net decrease i)l: 2,057 on the figures- ot 1917, the proportion of alienees to the population being LO-Lper cent., as against LSI) the previous year. Serious offences reported decreased by 28, but the number of offences in which arrests resulted increased by 8. indecent and sexual-offences decreased by 100, and prosecutions for drunkenness by Lo<2, (he,principal decrease in the latter instance, being -112 in the Wellington district. Slv grog-selling prosecutions. 130, decreased by three, as compared jwiih the previous year, and convictions, 07, by 21. Fines imposed on slv grog-selling amounted to £1,300, against C 1,032 in 1017. In the matter of fines for this offence, the Hamilton district led the way with .(‘560, Wellington was next with £IBO, and then came Dunedin and Wanganui with £l7O each.
