RONGOTEA BULB SHOW.

The Rongolea Horticultural' Society’s seventh Blub Show was held ; on Tuesday, and was a success from every point of view— This was the first show held by the Rongotea Society since the outbreak of war, and from the great interest evinced by exhibitors and ; the public generally the future pro- ' gross of the Society is assured. The (Mr H. IT. Hunt) statedthat the opening ceremony was to have been performed by Mr E. Newman, M.P., but as he was' unavoidably absent he asked Mr Norman Gorton, of Feikling, to open same. Mr Gorton, who takes a very keen interest in horticulture, congratulated the Society® on the very successful show. The exhibits generally compared favourably with those of much larger centres, and lie felt sure from the very keen interest that the people of Rongotea had shown in the Society that it would continue to prosper. Mr Gorton also mentioned that the first secretary and one of the promoters of tins Society haul made the sup; seme sacrifice during the war, Licufeh W. G. Gihbs. After congratulating prize-winners, he declared the show open.

A speeial feature of I lie Show was the very line blooms exhibited by Mr .1. Weightman, of Awahuri, who secured no less than 20 lirst prizes, and eight seconds. Mr N. Gorton also had some very line exhibits, and was awarded six firsts and thirteen seconds.

The Society's challenge bowl, valued at 25 guineas, is a very line trophy. It was presented by Mr X, Gorton, and this show was the 7 first time it had been competed for. it is fur best collection of narcissi, 12 varieties, one bloom of each, no bulb to be priced at more than 2s (Id in any current catalogue; to be won three limes in succession or live times at intervals before becoming the property' of exhibitor. Keen interest was taken in this competition, and the blooms exhibited were very line. It was won by Mr ■I. Weight man (Awahnri), Mr W. G. Bond (Palmerston North) was second, and Mrs McMurray• (Foxton) third.

The decorative classes were keen-"*' iy contested, and (he judge* must; have .had some little difficult v in

warding the prizes, as the work generally wa.s of a very high standard.

The only Foxton exhibitor at the .‘■how was Mrs McMarray, wild secured first prize for Pansies, three varieties, one of each; second for anemones, single, 4 varieties, one of each; second for anemones, double, three varieties, one of each, and third for trumpet, 3 varieties, one of each.
