GOVERNMENT TO ANNOUNCE. POLICY The member for Otaki (Mr W. H. Field) recently" asked the Prime Minister whether the Government had yet decided upon any form of fair taxation of motor vehicles to provide local bodies with funds for the upkeep of roads. In replying on Tuesday, Mr Massey said that provision was proposed in the Motor Bill of 1914 for the allocation of proportion of the fees payable in respect of the registration and licensing of motors, to be expended in the special repair of roads used for motor traffic within the provincial district in which the fees were received. It urns not found possible during the war to proceed with that measure.
