A letter was read from the Lands .Department, advising that the question of declaring goatsruo a noxious weed rested with the local bodies concerned,’and pointing out that the Woodville County Council had declared the plant a noxious weed in ]‘.)l6. ■ In response to the Chamber.supplication to have it similarly dealt with in the Manawatu County, the County Clerk advised that the Council had decided not to lake any action in the matter until the trouble was dealt with at its source (Manawatu Gorge), as every flood in the river would again re-sow the !ow„-l,ying lands along the banks of (he river. Members expressed the opinion, (hat apparently the Manawatu County Council was not aware that the ’Woodville County had already declared goatsruo a noxious weed. The spread of this-plant was a menace to thousands of acres of first-class land, and every effort should be made to eradicate it.

It was decided to forward a copy of the letter from the Lauds Department to the Manawatu County Council, with the request that hey reconsider the matter. HYDRO-ELECTRIC LEAGUE. . A letter was read from the Man-gabao'Hydro-Electric League, forwarding a, report of the work done by the League, and asking the Council, with' the request that they ed to link up with the League. QUARTERLY MEETING.

It was decided to hold the quarterly general meeting of the Chamber on Monday, September 29th, at 7.30 p.m. SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY.

Mr Christie gave notice of his intention to move at the next meeting; That in the- opiniun of this Chamber to join same. It was decidthe Government- should introduce legislation providing for the introduction of a universal Saturday half-holiday.
