FOXTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Foxton School Committee was held lasi jiighl in the Borough Council Chambers. Present: Messrs Kellow (chairman)., 6. Coley, Claris, P. Robinson,' P?rreau, Parkin, Alexah* der, and the headmaster- (Mr Furrie). Apologies for non-attendance were received from Hornblow and McMurray. It was resolved that the Railway Department be thanked for their readiness to carry bricks required for the new school,;
That the Borough Council he thanked for agreeing to-erect notice boards to motorists.
That in view of the high price *o£ books and requisites, it is becoming' most difficult for parents to keep children supplied with essentials, and thus the Committee urges on the Government the necessity of establishing a Government store from which supplies could be distributed to schools free of charge, the cost to be met from the Consolidated Funds, and that copies of the resolution he forwarded to the Minister of Education, Wanganui Education Board, and the Member for the district. .
That Mr SJmiler he thanked for gift of shrubs and trees, and Mrs A. S. Easton for donation of lllbs. of cocoa per month for the luncheon scheme.
That all monthly reports from visitors to the school bo handed in in writing.
Some discussion look place on tlie matter of accommodation as embodied in flic visitors’ report presented by Mr Claris. It was pointed out that under the regulations governing space, required per' child the room at rear of’ Park Street Hall should contain 30 children, whereas there are 54 accommodated, and that All Sainis’ schoolroom contains So children, whereas only 01 should be accommodated. The oilier schoolrooms are, fairly satisfactory. Messrs Porreau and Parkin wore appointed visitors for September. The equipment for new school was thoroughly discussed, and a list of requirements submitted, which were endorsed provisionally. The application for subsidy on (he £292 raised has gone- forward to the Education Hoard, and the Committee expects to he in a position to expend £5Bl on equipment. Two small accounts were passed for payment.
