ANNUAL MEETING OP CANTER-
BURY UNION
Christchurch, Aug. 27.
At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Sheepowners’ Union the chairman, Mr T. D. Burnett, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, mentioned, inter alia, that the union was in no way up against Labour, believing in the true British principle that the other man should he heard. Regarding the sale and distribution of meat, it was agreed that no delegation should he sent to England to discuss the question at Home until the Federated, Meat Committee had been called together. It was deluded to approach the .Minister for Agriculture with a view to obtaining a reduction in the draft allowance on wool. It was resolved to take-:steps to form a New Zealand Producers’ Cooperative Association. The rabbit nuisance was discussed, and it was agreed Unit Captain Neale should be written to regarding the use of gas the destruction-of the pest.' The following resolution was also carried: “That in the opinion of the sheepowners of Canterbury Jf is not in the hest interests of the province that a lucrative trade' be built up in rabbit export and rabbit fur, and that the national interests are best served by the extermination of the rabbit.” ■ Mention was made of the raVages of keas among high country flocks, and it was decided to urge the Government to be more earnest in their steps to exterminate the birdsr
