FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.

The annual' general meeting of members of the Foxton Lawn Tennis Club will be'held in the Council Chambers to-night, at 7.30 o’clock, not 8 o’clock, as previously advertised. The following is the annual report to be submitted; — - “Your 'Committee has pleasure jn submitting Jo yon the annual report and balance-sheet. The past season has been a very successful one, due to the enthusiastic spirit with which all members entered into the game, but unfortunately soon after the season opened, tenuis, in common with other sports, was practically brought to a standstill owing to the' epidemic, and it was not till the New Year that the players who had the misfortune to contract the influenza were fit enough to resume. During the season a ‘ladder’ was instituted in the Club, which created keen competition amongst the active members. Several inter-elub matches were played against Shannon and Terrace End clubs, and although your Club was not victorious in the matches played at Shannon and Terrace End, in the return matches played on the’ local courts it was su&e.s.sful in defeating the respective visiting clubs, and the Committee recommend to the incoming Committee that more matches with the surrounding clubs bo arranged next season. Finance: As you will see by the accompanying balance-sheet, the Club’s overdraft is £132, an increase of about £2O on the year's working. This increase is due to necessary improvements to the courts and pavilion. The expenses for the incoming season should be comparatively light, provided members roll up lo‘ working bees,’ enabling expenses to be kept at a minimum. The closing of forthcoming seasons ought io see a steady and appreciable reduction in the Club's liability. It might he well to impress upon members that prompt payment of subscriptions means interest saved to the Club. General: The courts were top-dres-sed at the beginning of the season, but luifortunalely owing to unfavourable eoudil ions, did not prove so successful as was anticipated, and they will require to be done again next season, and this work no doubt the incoming ■committee will have carried out at a more favourable time of the year. The membership of the Club now stands at 17, and nexl season should see a fair increase. In.conclusion, your (Joinmil tee, in n-liring from office, desire to I ha uk Ihe members for their support and assistance during the past season, amt wish the incoming Committee success ami prosperity for (he nexl season.” The balance-sheet disclosed that the season commenced with an overdraft of £ll3 (is 3d, and closed with an overdraft of £.132 13s Oil, The receipts totalled £3(i 19s od, of which subscriptions were £3l 13s (Id.
