The Hydrahad. —The above illfated ship is likely to leave her hones on the ilorowhemia Beach. She was sold on Friday last for £SO to Air B. Holm wood, brother of the captain of the ship.
Anniversary Celebration. On Saturday afternoon last, about 20 of the principal residents of Fox (on and Aluulua assembled at the “Alanawatu Herald'’ Office to celebrate - the anniversary of the, publication of -the paper. The gathering was quite impromptu, having been determined on in the morning, hence a number of gentlemen who were invited were unable to be present; whilst the hosts explained to those who attended that sufficient time had not elapsed to enable invitations to be sent to leading country sellers. The gathering took place in the “making-up” room, the refreshments being placed on the “imposing stone.” A number of toasts were drunk very heartily, including the following: “Success to the ‘Mann walu Herald’ “The Progress of Foxton”; “The Proprietors, Messrs Russell Bros.”; “Mrs Russell”; “The Old Identities,” coupled with the names of Messrs Robinson, Cook and Gray; “The Commercial Interests of Foxton,” coupled with the name of Mr Flower; “The Ladies;” ‘•The Country Districts,” coupled with the name of Mr Christopher Simpson; “Air Waiter Johnston,” and “Absent Friends.” The gathering was greatly enlivened by some excellent comic songs by Air Cobb — including “Alan at the Nore,” anil the “Two Obadiahs,” whilst Air J. Russell gave “The British Lion.” Hearty wishes were expressed by all present for the success of the paper, and Air Flower, in proposing the health of the proprietors, referred to the frequent quotations from the “Herald” in other papers as the surest sign of the esteem in which it was held out of the district,-; as well as in it. Air Thynne, in proposing “The Commercial Interests of Foxton,” referred to the faet that when the idea was mooted of starting a paper at Foxton, the opinion had been expressed by a number of people that it would be a losing game. However, they were now all very pleased at the success ■that had been achieved. The proceedings throughout were of a very pleasant character, and the hope was expressed by all present, for the future success of the paper.
