THE RAILWAY “CUT.”
MEASURES OF RELIEF. THROUGH TRAINS TO RUN. The coal position having slightly improved, it is understood that arrangements are being made to run through trains between. Wellington, Auckland, and New Plymouth, and between Christchurch, Dunedin, an\ Invercargill. The new arrangement will be brought into operation next week. A train will leave Invercargill at midday on Monday for Dunedin, and a train will leave Dunedin for Christchurch on Tuesday. On the return journey, a train will leave Christchurch for Dunedin on Thursday, and Dunedin for Invercargill on Friday. On the Northern linos, a train will leave Auckland for 'Wellington at 7.10 p.m. on Tuesday, and Wellington for Auckland at midday on Thursday; Wellington to New Plymouth on Tuesday; and New Plymouth to Wellington on Thursday. The hours of departure will be approximately the times followed by the express trains before the restrictions were brought into operation. Connection with Napier will he made at Palmerston North.
Thc restrictions on passengers travelling will remain in operation, as the necessity for coal-saving still exisls. The engines used for Ihe passenger service notified above will he utilised for goods traffic on the
return journey. If the position in respect to coal improves, further measures for relief, so far as goods traffic is concerned, will be taken.
