EDUCATIONAL.
THE people of Palmerston N,. arc waking up to the fact that local administrative control of their schools is necessary if they are to gel a fair deal from the Department. The condition of some of the schools, and the lack of accommodation, is not only detrimental to the health and educational welfare of the children, but is a grave reflection upon the authorities. The cause of the trouble is the attitude of the Chairman of the Education Board in his dealings with the Minister and Department. This gentleman, who is a. law unto himself in educational affairs, has endeavoured to bludgeon the Department into doing his sweet will, and Palmerston has suffered. The public are now taking a hand, and intend to appeal to Caesar direct. The Palmerston affair strengthens the argument for the abolition of Education Boards in favour of local educational committees of control.
