Maximilian Harden has completed a sensational film, called “Kaiser Wilhelm’s Happiness and Extinction.” The former Kaiser worshipper, Pedinand Bonn, is playing the title role. The film is pregnant with sarcasm. A French aviator recently made successful experiments with the smallest aeroplane existing, called “the mosquito.” It measures four yards from wing-tip to wing-tip, and has a 20-h.p. engine. It flew for an hour at an altitude of 5,000 feet. Sending a cheque for 200 guineas to the Earling War Memorial Fund, Mr A. de Troy, a Swiss resident, said:—“l had made up my mind to send 20 guineas, but I woke up all of a sudden and decided to add a 'O’ and blow the consequences.” A no-bath and no-underwear doctrine is advanced by Dr. Charles E. Page, a well-known physician and author of health books, as certain to lead to longevity. Dr. Page declared there are dozens of fashionable women residents of the Black Bay district who “have not applied water to their bodies for the last ten years,” and as a result arc the pictures of physical health. If people adhere to this theory of no baths and no underwear, and take a proper coarse grain diet, Dr. Page believes the average span of life will eventually reach 110 or 115 years. He himself is a vigorous man of 79. An Alpine fight took place recently between Swiss and Italian patrols on the summit of Monte Generoso, which is 5,590 ft. high, and is on the frontier near Lugano. Six Italian Alpini crossed the frontier in order to obtain refreshments at the Hotel Kulm, on the summit of the mountain. Two of them were arrested and disarmed by Swiss soldiers, while the other four escaped into the neighbouring forest, whence they opened fire on the hotel, in
which there were many visitors, including English and Americans, Swiss soldiers replied by fire. In (he course of the fight many windows were smashed in the hotel, and the hotelkeeper’s son was severely wounded. None of the visitors were touched.
