ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
RETURNED SOLDIER DROWNED, Waitara, Aug. 4. A returned soldier named William Free, aged 30, and recently married, was discovered drowned in a dam with three feet of water in it. An inquest will be held to-morrow. DEATH OF A CHILD. Dunedin, Aug. 4. . Jessie Tyon Mee, aged seventeen months, died at Kaitangata yesterday from shock following injuries accidentally received through drinking caustic soda. MINER KILLED. Christchurch, Aug. 4, At Homebush coal mine to-day, John Penman, a miner, 39 years of age, was killed by a heavy fall of stone from the roof of the gallery in which he was working.
