SIGNS OF MINING REVIVAL.
It is becoming more evident all the time that the stirrings of a mining revival will before long touch this district. It is well known that only the fringe of the auriferous country has as yet been touched. At the present tifne there is a considerable amount of quiet work and prospecting being undertaken in nearly all the, valleys adjacent to the Thames. It is pleasant, therefore, to hear that some of those who have the enterprise to undertake mining work when the general conditions most disheartening, are being rewarded for their pluck. From the Waiotahi Creek area comes news that Mr Bird has secured some good stone, which crashed well, a small parcel of 121bs. yielding 2(iozs. of melted gold. In the Coromandel district more men arc going out, several parties have recently secured the Government allowance of 30s per man per week, through the assistance of (lie Coromandel County Councils —Thames Star.
