HIGH PRICES FOR COWS.
£36 15s FOR DAIRY ANIMAL. The sale of dairy cattle held in Bruce Road, Levin, on Friday, under instructions from Mr P. A. Williams, attracted a large attendance of buyers. The dairy herd of 24 cows was in excellent condition considering the season of the year. This was reflected in the prices received, the bidding being very spirited, record prices being made for dairy stock for this district, and probaly for the Dominion. Twelve cows coming into early profit averaged £24 ss, the top price being £36 15s for a large-framed crossbred animal. The prices for the dozen cows were £lO, £*l7, £lB, £26, £27 10s, £2B ss, £3O 10s, £26, £27 10s, £26, £l7 10s, and £36 15s. Twelve cows in milk averaged £l6 10s.
A few pedigree Jerseys were also submitted to auction, a cow realising 60 gns., bull 20 gns., heifer calf 10 gns., and 12-months heifer 25 gns. —Chronicle.
