Of all the States of America, Illinois takes the palm for really amusing “freaks”; such as the law prohibiting bachelors from being called “Mister,” their Christian names and surnames only being used as a mark; and the other prescribing that every bridegroom must-make an affidavit that he has not been intoxicated more than twice during the year before his marriage. During hostilities no fewer than 35 air raids were made on London, in 12 of which the city suffered severely. The losses from these dozen visitations amounted to no less than £15,000,000.
