SAD FATALITY.
OLD LADY KILLED BY A MOTOR CAR. A motor ear fatality occurred during the Peace rejoicings at Palmerston on Saturday night. Airs Maria Haley, aged 74 years, who resided with her son in Oakley Street, had been in town with her daughter-in-law and little grandchild to see the Peace celebrations. Deceased and child having become separated from Airs Haley junr., were returning home via Cuba Street, about 10 o’clock. At the junction of George Street the child noticed a car, and called out to her grandmother, but it was too late, and she had stepped on to the road and was immediately struck and thrown to the ground, and sustained injuries to Her head, arm and leg, and expired before arrival at the hospital. The ear, with its four or five occupants, was (ravelling at only ten to twelve miles an hour, and pulled' up within fourteen feet. At the time of the accident (he lights of the car wore dimmed. An inquest will he held.
