SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION.
TO REV. J. H. AND MRS.
BREDIN. The local Presbyterian congregation entertained the Rev. and Mm' Bredin at a farewell social and presentalion in Uio schoohviom on Friday evening. Among those present were representatives of oilier denominations, including the Rev. IV. Raine (Anglican) and Rev. Mr Harding (Methodist). The Rev. Alex. Doull, interim "moderator of the charge, presided, and in said he regretted, with them, the parture of Air and Airs Bredin. He paid a tribute to the work done by Mr Bredin, as minister of tiilf charge, over a period of nearly four years, and wished him every success in his new- charge at Alareakakaho. He also paid a fine tribute to the work done by Airs Bredin in the Sabbath school and in connection with other church organisa- 1 tions. ■
The Rev. Mr Harding regretted Mr Brcdin’s departure, and spoke f of the good feeling which existed between the ministers. He knew the disti’iet to which Mr Bredin was going, which was one of the best in the Dominion from a residential 1 joint of view. He wished Mr and Mrs Bredin every success in their new held of labour, and’God’s richest blessing.
The Rev. Mr Raine prefaced his remarks by stating that he was the longest resident minister in Foxton. He paid a tine tribute to Mr Bredin, both as a minister and a citizen. He urged the congregation to show their appreciation of Mr Bredin by evincing a greater interest in their church work.
Mr Hornblow, speaking on behalf of the congregation, reviewed the work which had been carried on during the past years. He said Mr Bredin had discharged his pastoral and ministerial duties faithfully and well. He also touched upon the activities of Mrs Bredin. As a token of esteem he Ipinded Mr Bredin a cheque for a substantial sum.
The Chairman also presented Mrs Bredin, on behalf of the ladies of the congregation, with a set of toilet requisites. Mr Bredin feelingly responded, and thanked the speakers for their kindly references to Mrs Bredin and himself. Ho would over remember the kindnesses extended to him in this, his first ministerial charge in X ew Zealand. The call had gpffig him from Maraekakaho, and ho felt led to follow it. He had been approached to take other charges, but he felt ho was doing the right thing in accepting the call to Maraekakaho, He sincerely hoped they would extend to his successor the same kindness and forebearance which he had received at their hands, and he prayed that God’s richest blessing would he upon them.
During the evening items were rendered by Mrs Wainwrighl, Miss Hetty (who made her first public appearance as a vocalist and received finite an ovation), Messrs Ged~'?» Henderson, Hornblow and The ladies of the congregation supplied refreshments. The proceedings, closed with the Doxology Benediction.
