PROPOSED WATER SCHEME.
LEVIN PROPOSAL TURNED DOWN.
At last night’s Council meeting a letter Avas read from the Toavu Clerk, Levin, advising that a special committee had been set up to consider the Avhole question of Foxlon being connected up with the Levin Avater supply, and to consult Avith the engineers, and upon the completion of their investigations the Fox- 1 ton Council would ho advised of the result.
The Toavu Clerk said ihat Mr Mathoson, Mayor of Levin, had waited on him to ascertain if the Foxton Council Avas in-earnest in connection with lids matter. The Levin Borough did not want to go to (he expense of getting an engineer’s report unless there Avas some probability of Foxton seriously consid - ering the scheme. Cr. Coley said that unless Levin could tell them Avlnil pressure could ho obtained it Avas no good Foxton considering the scheme. They Avonld have to gel a guarantee of a certain pressure. Personally he did not think they Avonld ho able to got sufficient pressure.
The Mayor said he didn’t think a dual scheme Avonld be A r cry satisfactory. Whilst (hoy avouUl like to get all the information possible, he didn’t think they Avonld he justified in putting the Levin Borough to any great expense in connection witlv same, as he didn’t really hold out any hope of going in for the Levin scheme.
After some further discussion, in Avhich it was considered that the cost of pipes and laying same from Levin would put the scheme out of court, it 1 was decided, on the motion of Crs. MeMnr ray and Thompson, that the Levin Borough Council be advised; that this Council cannot aft the present time (oAving to the high cost of pipes and the unsettled stato of the iron and steel markets) consider the question of obtaining Avater from LeA’in.
