TRAIN ACCIDENT.
CARRIAGE LEAVES THE RAILS. Napier, July 0. The up train from Palmerston N., which arrived here at 6.15 p.m. today, had rather a narrow escape from what might have turned out to be a serious accident. On reaching Ormondville, the train pulled into a side line to allow the down mail to pass. The.train was an exceedingly long one, the services of two engines being required to draw it. After the mail had passed, the up train left Ormondville station, but as the carriages were traversing (he points, which were apparently split, one or two of them‘left the track. The speed of the train was not great, but was quite sufficient to cause one carriage to topple over* This would have caused the remaining carriages to fall also, had it not been for the timely snapping of the couplings. These carriages contained many ■women and children. The occupants of the overturned car (four in all) managed to get clear in time, and beyond a severe slinking no harm befell them. The line was soon cleared, and the train was then cut in two and the passengers brought on to Napier. The train arrived well up to time.
