CORRESPONDENCE.
(To (lie Editor.) Sir. —Would yon kindly insert the following in your paper for publiea(ion, as after the shabby'treatment I have received at the hands of the Harbour Board it will he some slight recompense: — Captain L. B. Sheppard, harbour master and pilot, has, after being here two months, received notice that the Harbour Board are unable to retain his services, on account of expense attached. It: is a pity that this Board were not aware of their financial position before advertising the position and its great prospects, which induced Captain Sheppard, who has had considerable experience in both bucket ail'd suction dredging, to give up his home and permanent position as Relieving Ma stcr Mariner at Westport to come here. It is-time that the public demanded a full report, as to what this representative body really means to do next under the cloak of progress. Thanking you in anticipation.—• I am, etc., c L. B. SHEPPARD, R.N.R, Harbour Master
