LAND FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS.
TWO ESTATES PURCHASED. PRICE £BB PER ACRE. Particulars of the land purchased near Palmerston for soldier settlement were obtained by a Palmerston Standard reporter yesterday. There are two blocks involved. One is owned by the trustees of the estate of the late Mr D. Buick, M.P and contains 274 acres 1 rood 10 perches. It is situate on Boundary Road, within 44 chains of the borough boundary. The other is situate on No. 3 Line (Stubbs’ Line), near Newbury, and has an area of 391 acres 20 perches. It was purchased from Mr R. A. McKenzie. The price paid in each block was £BB per acre. It is proposed to cut up the greater portion of the Buick estate in 5 acre sections for the benefit of men engaged in town occupations. The whole of the McKenzie estate will be subdivided into about 30acre farms. The land is exceedingly rich, and first-class results will be obtainable by soldier settlers. It is the intention of the Department to proceed with the necessary survey, roads, etc., immediately, :
