SCHOOLBOYS’ THRILL.

Putting into practice an idea obtained from a cinema, four little schoolboys tried to hold up a train in Lancashire. The boys’ ages range between nine and ten years, and they all pleaded guilty at Lytham to putting an obstruction weighing 001 b on the railway line. This was discovered by a platelayer, said Mr H. E. Daniel (prosecuting), just as a train was due. It seemed as though only the dispensation of Providence prevented a serious accident. One boy, Mr Daniel added, explained afterwards that they had been to a cinema, and there saw a train wrecked and the passengers robbed by some men. They wanted the train to go off the line and be wrecked in the same way. The other three boys confessed that this was right. Mr F. S. Stott (chairman), in . ordering the boys to receive three strokes with the birch, said the sooner such cinema pictures were stopped the better. It took his breath away to think of the appalling disaster that might have occurred.
