FLAX INDUSTRY.
THE WAGES QUESTION,
At a recent meeting of the Ngav Zealand Flaxmillers’ Association it was decided to cancel the working agreement existing between the Association and the Employees’ Union respecting ra,|es of pay of ilaxmill workers, and a letter to this effect was sent to the Secretary of the Union. A special general meeting of the Union Avas held on Saturday to consider the question, Avhich Avas presided over by Mr A. C. Hillier. The position Avas fully discussed, and the folloAving resolution unanimously carried: — That this special meeting of the Manawatu Flaxmills Employees’ Union calls upon all llaxAvorkers not to resume work for less than 14s per day until the delegates appointed luvA 7 e met the flaxmillers in conference. It Avas the general opinion of the men that it Avould be impossible to live under 14s per day, in vicAV of the present high cost of living. The delegates appointed to Avail on the ' Flaxmillers’ Association were: Messrs A. Jeffreys, A. C. Hillier, C. Seott and P. T. Robinson. The Air Robinson, Avas instructed to arrange a conference Avith the millers, for Monday, June 2nd, if possible, for the purpose of draAving up a Avorking agreement. A special meeting of the N.Z. Flaxmillers’ Association is to be held on Thursday to consider the position. *
