The longest pipe-line for the conveyance of mineral oil is (he one, which connects the now war-fam-ous town of Baku, on the Caspian Sea, with Batoum, on the Black; Sea, both of which towns arc now under Allied control. This pipe-line was conpleted just before the war, the oil having formerly been con-' vcyed in great tanks by rail. It is 550 miles in length, and has a carrying capacity of -100,000,000 gallons per annum. Last year a German paper estimated that paper yarns worth £75,000,000 were manufactured to replace (he scarcity of cotton goods, due to the British blockade.
