SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the School 'Committee w'as held in the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday night. Present: Alessrs Kellow (chairman), Alexander, Coley, * Claris, Hornblow', AlcAlurray, Perreau, Parkin and P. Robinson, and the head teacher (Air Fume). The head- teacher’s report was read and adopted. Resolved that (lie head teacher’s requisition for school equipment bo approved, and that the head teacher be empowered to obtain same.

On the motion o£ Messrs Hornblow and Coley, it was resolved to request the Board to replace (lie school library destroyed in (lie (ire, vahied at about £35. Messrs Ilornblow and Alexander moved that the Board bo urged to expedite the building oneralions of (he new school. Several reasons were given as to the alleged delay. The motion was carried.

Unsolved to procure a dozen tins of disinfectant powder for school Java lories. —Kellow —Robinson. The Chairman moved that, the Chairman and Secretary interview Mr Moore, solicitor, in regard to the acquisition of the old Mauri Cemetery as a silo for the school baths, and report to next meeting. —Carried.

Several accounts were passed for payment. Messrs Kellow and the Head Teacher wore instructed to draft a letter to the Board re secondary education, and to submit same to next meeting.

The question of supply of cocoa lu pupils was left in the hands of the Head 'Teacher. Mr Coley offered a bag of sugar, and Mr Alexander 11b. of cocoa. Accepted with thanks.

Tho Chairman said he had interviewed the Board’s architect re heal in”- the temporary class-rooms, and |Jmt live gas stoves would he sent down for this purpose by the Board. Mr Robinson offered to make a gas heater which he considered would be more satisfactory than the gas stove. The offer was accepted. It was resolved that the Board be asked to have permanent shelter sheds erected at once, and to point out that at present there is no shelter for the children in wet weather. —Perreau —-Kellow. Messrs Alexander and Claris were appointed visitors for the month.
