THE DROUGHT.

The present nnlmnn-winter drought is the longest known in this district. Stock' on many holdings are suffering from lack of water, and there is a scarcity of green feed for dairy stock, with a consequent falling off in the milk supply. In the borough, where householders depend upon tank supplies for water, great inconvenience is cans-' cd. Many people arc carting water from artesian supplies. Blenheim, Yesterday.

Marlborough, in common with the rest of the Dominion, is feeling the severe -drought, though not to the same extent as Hinvke’s Bay and North Auckland. Rain is badly wanted, but the lucerne to some extent is stalling off disaster. The Avater is giving out, and many of Hie rivers and creeks are drying up. No mortality amongst stock is reported, but prices have fallen considerably. The outlook for winter feed is not promising. It is the Avorst dry spell knoAvn in the district. The Pelorous and Wakamarinu rivers are very loaa-, and at Deej> Creek crushing has been ens tirely suspended.

WANGANUI RIVER AT RECORD LOW LEVEL. Wanganui, May 15. In consequence pf the drought, the volume of water in the Wanganui River has been shrinking appreciably, and from Taumarunui to Parakino, where the tidal influences is felt, a distance of 120 miles, thq river is at a record low level. - The river steamer service is being maintamed with the greatest difficulty.
