GENERAL WAR MEDAL.
Wellington, .May H. In connection with the issue of a general war medal, the New Zealand Defence Department is preparing rolls of the recipients, and making arrangements for the distribution of the medals. It is also proposed to issue to all members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force illuminated certificates showing each man’s record of service. There will be two classes of certificates, one for soldiers with oversea service, and the other for soldiers with not less than 12 months’ home sendee. It is not intended to issue certificates of discharge to men in training here when the armistice was signed, but to discharge them en bloc by proclamation on (he conclusion of peace. It is officially announced that in Ihe case of the intended wives of New soldiers, the Immigration Department accepts a nomination fo rassisted passages, and gives £l3 towards either second or third class passages.
