It has recently been discovered that, alcohol can be extracted from kelp or seaweed in quantities sufficiently large to make it probable, at least, that the manufacture would pay its way as a commercial undertaking. A number of obsolete tanks are to bo sold by llu; British Government. The intention is that they should he broken up and the material, including engines and gears, used for industrial purposes. It is slated that the Natal Provincial Council intends to purchase land in Northern Natal and Zululand to provide 105 allotments of ’ from 400 to 700 acres each for the settlement of returned soldiers.
