FOR SERVICES TO THE EMPIRE.
Five swords of honour are to be presented with the Freedom of the City by the Lord Mayor and Corporation of the City of London tcA— Admiral the Right Hon. Viscount Jellieoe of Scapa, G.C.8., 0.M., G.C.V.O. Admiral Sir David Beatty, G.C.8., G.C.V.0., D.S.O. Field-Marshal the Right Hon. the Viscount French xif Ypres, K.P., G.C.8., 0.M., G:C.V.()., K.C.M.G. Field-Marshal Si)- Douglas Haig, K.T., G.C.8., G. C.V.0., K.C.I.E. General Sir Edmund H. 11. Allenby, 6.C.8., G.C.M.G. The designing and manufacture of the swords has been entrusted to the Goldsmith and Silversmith Company, Ltd., of 112, Regent Street. They arc to he of 18-carat gold, the designs being symbolical of the war services of the recipients and expressive of value of those services in particular to the City of London. They will be decorated in relief, and the designs enriched by the use of enamel and precious stones.
