BOWLING.

There was an attendance of At at the special general meeting of memhers of the local Bowling Club, held on Thursday evening to consider the committee’s proposals for improvements to the grounds, pavilion, and surroundings. The president (Mr E. 1). Whihley) presided, and briefly outlined the .proposed improvements,- which were as follows: —To thoroughly top-dress, level and sow down the croquet lawn (this work had already been carried out by a number of enthusiastic ■members) ; to give the bowling green a light top-dressing, and sow some more seed (this work to he done as soon as the weather was favourable for same). The proposal in reference to the pavilion was to erect a verandah the full length of the building, and extending out almost to the edge of the green bank. The committee estimated the cost of material for this work would be £25. The erection of same would not cost the club anything, as the whole of the work would he carried out voluntarily by club memhers. —> The committee’s recommendation in this matter was adoptejJ, and a start with the work will lx* made within the next few days.. The committee also recommended the erection of a rustic summerhouse on the land at (he southern end of the croquet lawn, wijh concrete stops leading up to same, to plant with ornamental shrubs the area round the summer house, and also to plant more shrubs and creepers on other pads of the ground and round the fence; and In construct a brick - or concrete wall, at the southern end of the croquet lawn. — The meeting approved of those proposals, and recommended the committee to proceed with same as soon as the verandah on the pavilion is completed. The question of providing fund.-* to carry out the improvements was discussed,’and it was decided to invite voluntary donations from members, several donations being promised in the mom, and also to hold, a series of socials during life winter. in connection with the latter, the following committee was set up to make all the necessary arrangements: —Mesdames Woods, Ferreau, Bavkes, Ball, 'Whihley and Bearson, and Messrs F. Whihley, Ch.ri.-4ie, and Rangiheuea.
