A NEW COALFIELD.

PROSPECTS AT NINE MILE. TWENTY YEARS’ SUPPLY IN VIEW. Grcymouth, Saturday. For some time past boring operations have been in progress at the Nine Mile, and the results so far have exceeded anticipations, an analysis of the coal shows that it is of the very best quality, and is superior to that obtained from the Liverpool Mine. As steam eoal it will prove equal to the best in New Zealand. The area covered by the new held is very extensive. The outcrop and borings show that (here arc at least 13.000,0(10 tons of coal, sufficient for supplies for 20 years. Ttye mine, is throe miles from Runanga 8 tat ion, and (he country is flat and presents no engineering difficulties in the way of railway construction. I’he mine can be put into full working order in twelve months. A large meeting was held at Runanga last night, over which the Mayor presided. Mr H. E. Holland, M.P., addressed the meeting, and a resolution was passed that in view o f the fact that the Point Elizabeth Mine was practically worked out, the serious shortage of the Dominion coal supply, and the 1 amine prices, the Government should he urged to proceed with the development of the Niue Mile seam. Ihe resolution is to ho forwarded to the Acting-Prime Minister and the Minister for Mines.
