WHATEVER object induced Mr Piraui (Chairman oL‘ (he Wanganui Education Board) lo attend liu* householders’ meeting at Eoxlon on Tuesday night, it was Hie essence of bad taste on his part lo accept the chairmanship of (he meeting, and furthermore, (lie holding of such position was an illegal-act. Air Fraser’s action in proposing Mr Piraui as chairman of the meeting, whatever his motives, was an insult to the intelligence of the audience, and an action which we can safely say is unprecedented in the history of householders meetings, and which would not he tolerated in any similar gathering of intelligent men and women. The only excuse against a demonstration of protest was due (o the fact Ilia! a majority of (he audience was not aware ol what hud, actually taken place until Mr Pirani commenced lo speak. Common courtesy surely demanded that, the meeting should not have commenced until the old committee — which were meeting in an adjoining room —had made its appearance, which it did on the lick of 8 o’clock,lo find the meeting in progress. Mr Pirani’s right to preside was challenged, and the end of this will be in oilier hands. In our next issue we will deal more fully with this subject.
