SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION.
TO-NIGHT’S MEETING OF ■ HOUSEHOLDERS. To-night’s meeting of householders for the purpose of electing a School Committee of nine members, should prove a record in point of attendance, and the number of candidates offering. There appears to be some confusion in -the minds of a number of people as to who are qualified to vote. .The Act makes it very clear that only householders are entitled to be nominated and to vote. “Householder” means — (a) Every adult male or female person who has for the period of three months next before the day before the day of election resided in any dwelling-house within the school district as owner or tenant thereof; and (b) The father, wherever resident, or if he is dead or absent from New Zealand, the guardian, or other person, whereever resident, who has the actual custody of any child attending any public school situated within such district ; and (c) In school districts situated within the mining district under “The Mining Act, 1908,” includes every holder of a minor’s right who for the period of three months next before the day of election has resided in the district and is not an alien; and (d) The husband or wife of any person referred to in paragraphs (a), (b), or (c) hereof. “Resident Householder” means a householder resident in the school district. “Dwelling-house” means a permanent structure, but does not include a tent, or other temporarv shelter.
Householders who are living in rented rooms are elassed as householders, and parents whose children are attending the school are also classed as householders. A report has been circulated to the effect that parents whose children arc attending (he Convent school tire not entitled to vote. Such report is untrue, and misleading. One other point in connection with to-night’s meeting, and that is that only those entitled to vote, and who possess (he qualifications of householders should attend. To allow those outside to be present may lead to confusion. The question will be asked pa eh one when entering the hall whether they possess the necessary qualifications. Nomination of candidates will be received at the meeting, and voting papers prepared. The voting papers will be given to each householder, who will strike out the names of those candidates for whom the voter does NOT desire to vote, leaving uncancelled the names of candidates —not more than nine—for whom he desires to vote. The Chairman of Committee has obtained the services of Air Waters, Town Clerk and Returning Officer, to supervise the voting. Each voter will come forward and receive the voting paper, take it to a table conveniently situated, record (he vote, and return the ballot paper to the ballot box. The business for the meeting will be to receive the report and bal-ance-sheet, and to elect the Committee.
The report will contain n resume at’ the work clone by the Committee during the past year.
The present Commit tec. with (he exception of Mr Ingle, are standing for ro-elcclion. Their names are;--

While this is quite permissible, householders who have the welfare of the school at heart are advised to carefully scan the list and select the nine best candidates who, in their opinion, are best fitted to represent them to admini-
strate the affairs of the school. The meeting takes ..place in the Town Hall at 8 o’clock sharp, when further nominations will be received. MOUTOA COMMITTEE ELECTION. Mohckey, Campbell and F. Shaw. At a meeting of the new Committee held subquently, Mr F.
