PICKING THE. WINNERS. K Increase, (Slap-dab Progross), A good, allround animal, even tempered. A bit shy, works well in company with “Knight of the Cleaver." Although a maiden starter, should be well up at the finish. Knigld of the Cleaver. — (Economy —Wait-nwhile). In good fettle, ■-Ujibs at water and drainage, but is solid on roads and footpaths. A previous winner. Can always he relied upon to steady the team. George the Growler (.Motor Hog —Lady Bird). Aged, but still as game as ever. Requires skilful handling, as he lashes out on the slightest provocation. Has been a consistent winner for many years. Co-Op.— (Labour —Unknown). Lit lie is known of this performer, but he gallops well after lost profits'.
Old Tam, —(havens worth —(.hmd Heart). An aged grey, out for Progress and Argument. Misses his nightly sprints with Pills, hut is good for the distance. He has shifted his quarters to the Labour stable.
Lilliputian.— (Labour Union Street). Runs well when ridden by the Brotherhood of Man. Puls on the pace with his stable companions, but slackens in their absence. A
previous winner. Skim Milk. — (Cockatoo —Lupin). A good ambler. Never recovered from a stiff run on the Unimproved Values, flood in the darkness on the Avenue track. Well backed. ■ Happy -lack. — (Ironsides Tin Ribs). One of the best. Gallops well in any company. Harmony. — (Challenge —Tow). A showy hack, and gallops well l»» a pianoforte accompaniment. Mincemeat. (Labour Rump Steak). A dark horse. Perform-
aiiccs not known. Motor Works. — (Tin Lizzie —The Old Gueen). Has been taking Gallops with Alphabetical Jim, and cracks on a solid pace. Tipped to
Borough Band. — (Labour —Big Bass). A local bred youngster, who deserves eucouragement.
Sam-U-L. — (White Lead —■ Slap Dab). A good old steed, never goes off his tucker, and as hard as nails. Alpha helical Jim.— (EngineerProgress). Good level-headed animal. with sound common-sense, who has proved his ability on a previous occasion.
Codlin Moth.— (Labour —The Smiler), Good tempered, and wil-
lillg. T . Little Hat. — (Honesty —‘White Leghorn)- In good fettle, and will lead the team first past the post.
